President John Mahama, of Ghana, Chief Odigie-Oyegun, Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr Udom Emmanuel, Abubakar Sanni Bello were among the ten prominent leaders in Africa to receive the prestigious 2018 Zik Award for Good Governance.
It was gathered that, before the official announcement of their names, there was an exhaustive appraisal of nominees in various award categories.
In his welcome address, Professor Pat Utomi, Member, Advisory Board, of Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre, (PPRAC), stated that the Zik Prize Leadership Award was instituted in honour of the first President of Nigeria, Late Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe,
He said, “The primary aim is to encourage and nurture leadership on the African Continent and in the Diaspora. The year 2018 Zik Prize Award is set to follow this noble tradition of recognizing service excellence.
“President John Mahama and Chief Odigie Oyegun won the Zik Prize in Political Leadership, based on their long standing dynamic service to Ghana and Nigeria respectively and undying commitment to entrenchment of democratic ideas in the their respective countries polity.
“Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state, and Alh Abubakar Sanni Bello of Niger state, both emerged winner of Zik prize in good governance.

“While Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state, was honoured because of his renowned industrial scheme, educational reforms and massive grassroots and infrastructural development projects across his state, his counterpart Governor Abubakar Sanni Bello of Niger state, who has showed uncommon commitment to the socio-economic upliftment of the people of the state also clinged the award because of his restoration agenda that has seen massive investment in Agriculture, infrastructure and social services across the state.”
Other winners are: the honourable Minister of state, petroleum resources and Chairman of the Board of NNPC Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu and Pastor Shyngle Wigwe won year 2018 Zik prize in public service.
Femi Otedola and Prince Arthur Eze won year 2018 Zik prize in business leadership. Professor Oye Ibidapo and Mr Philips Oduoza won year 2018 Zik prize in professional leadership. Also her Excellency, first lady of Ekiti state, Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi won year 2018 Zik prize in Humanitarian leadership.
