Three members of a dare devil armed robbery gang terrorising Ikorodu are currently being investigated by operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos state police command.
The suspects who gave their names as: Olaseun Ishiaka, Mufutawo Aleshinloye and Ganiyu Rabiu aka Agbara were apprehended after they invaded, attacked and robbed residents in Equitable Estate, Egbalere-Ikorodu area of Lagos.
Newsbeats learned that at about 2am, on January 5th 2019, the police received information from a credible source that some armed robbers were operating at Egbalere-Ikorodu in Ikorodu.
Based on the information, operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikorodu, swiftly mobilized to the estate, where they found the robbers driving-off in a Nissan Xtera SUV with Registration number AJJ-281-DC that was snatched from a resident.
However, the police gave the robbers a hot chase, forcing them to abandon the vehicle at Itaelewa junction, Ikorodu and escaped. The abandoned vehicle was later recovered and inspected. The exhibits left behind in the car by the robbers, gave the police the necessary clue that led to the arrest of the gang leader, Olaseun Ishiaka and the recovery of a cut-to-size locally made double barrel gun with five unexpended cartridges.
While parading the suspects, the Commissioner of police Imohimi Edgal said during interrogation that the gang leader Olaseun Ishiaka confessed to have committed the crime and led operatives to their criminal hideout where two other members of the gang were also arrested.
Apart from the Nissan XTERA SUV, one cut-to-size locally made double barrel gun and five cartridges recovered from the first suspect, one inverter current generator, stabilizer, pressing Iron, cutlass, three wrist watches and one Samsung S8 phone were recovered from the two other suspects.
Similarly operatives of the Special Anti robbery squad (SARS), Lagos state police command has arrested three notorious armed robbers terrorising residents in Badagry and its environs.
The suspects identified as: Clark Chidiebere ,24 years, Ibrahim Fasasi, 21 years and Abiodun Fasasi 25 years, were arrested after they successfully robbed customers and owners of a firm, Distance Ventures at Badagry.
Newsbeats gathered that the robbers who usually operate with motorcycles stormed the firm’s premises attacking and robbing clients at about 11:30am, on the 31st of January, 2019.
However, while the robbery operation was on going, SARS Operatives stationed at Mowo-Badagry received intelligence report and swiftly raced to the scene where they engaged the robbers who were shooting sporadically as they retreated.
However, they were subdued by the superior fire power of the SARS Operatives, who arrested three of the robbers on Gbagi Bridge, while the rest jumped into the river.
Exhibits recovered from them include: One cut-to-size double barrel gun, one cut-to-size single barrel gun, five live cartridges, and one unregistered Bajaj Motorcycle.
While Parading the suspects alongside others, the Commissioner of police, Lagos state police command, Imohimi Edgal said efforts is ongoing to arrest the fleeing members, while the three suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
