Police arrest robbery kingpin, recover firearms

A member of a dreaded armed robbery gang specialised in using motorcycles to rob bank customers along Egbe Road by NNPC Junction Ejigbo, is currently being held in police cell in Ikeja police command.

The suspect met his Waterloo on Friday August 9th, while he and members of his gang were operating outside Access Bank along Egbe Road by NNPC, Junction Ejigbo.

It was gathered that at about 9:45am on Friday, Ejigbo Police Station received a distress call that some armed robbers on motorcycle were operating outside Access Bank along Egbe Road by NNPC Junction Ejigbo.

Immediately, patrol teams were deployed from Ejigbo Police Station to reinforce the Mobile Policemen on Guard duty at the Bank who engaged the armed robbers in a gun battle.

Eventually the armed robbers were overpowered and chased up to Egbe where their ring leader was arrested with bullet wounds while others escaped.

Confirming the arrest, DSP Bala Elkana, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State said one Brownie pistol with one live ammunition was recovered from the suspect.”

“Also the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira earlier robbed from a female victim was recovered and handed over to her.”

“SARS have taken over the investigation, efforts are being made to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang,.” He added.

In a related development, on Friday August 9th, Anti Crime Patrol Team from Satellite Police Station foiled an attempt by a car snatching syndicate to snatch a Peugeot 307 salon car at Mosalashi area, along Lagos /Badagry expressway, Mile 2.

The leader of the gang was arrested while a locally made shotgun was recovered from the suspect. The Peugeot 307 was recovered and handed over to the owner.

The suspect has been transferred to SARS with a view to apprehending other members of the gang. Investigation is ongoing, while suspect will be charged to Court.
