Police arrest rapist, 39 suspected cultists in Lagos


…Also nab 3 armed robbery suspects

Over the weekend, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command apprehended a rapist, three suspected armed robbers and 39 cultists within the state.

Among the suspects who are currently being investigated is one Anudumoapo Aiodun, who allegedly raped his neighbour’s eight years old daughter on the15th June, 2019.

It was learned that at about 5.00pm, Bariga Police Station received a complaint from a woman (Name withheld) that her eight years old daughter (Name withheld) was raped by their neighbour, one Anudumoapo Aiodun.

Sequel to the report, a team of detectives from the Family Support Unit promptly arrested the suspect, while the victim was taken to General Hospital for medical treatment and forensic examination.

In a related development Anti Robbery Patrol teams attached to Ijora Badia division arrested two suspected armed robbers.

The duo identified as: Rilwan Usman (25) of No.46, Tapa Bello Street Orile Iganmu and Abdulrahman Isiaka (20) of No.34, Iganmu Road, Ijora were both arrested on June 11, 2019 at about 10.20pm after police received a distress call that some hoodlums were operating at Dele hotel, along railway line.

It was learned that the police recovered one locally made Pistol from the suspects.

Meanwhile, Surveillance Patrol Team deployed to Araromi/Ishasi Iba Bridge, arrested the third suspect, John Nwosu.

25-year old, John Nwosu, a traffic robber was nabbed with a toy gun while attempting to rob some unsuspecting members of the public.

Arrest of 39 cultists

Barely a week after the Commissioner of Police Zubairu Muazu launched operation Crush to curb the scourge of cultists, the command has arrested thirty nine suspected cultists.

It was learned that while acting on credible Intelligence, Operation Crush teams attached to Bariga Police Station, led by the Divisional Police Officer on 13th June, 2019 at about 6.50pm, raided cultists hideouts at Bariga.

The operations which lasted for 3hours, 10minutes, succeeded in apprehending a notorious cultist, Danjuma Bala and eighteen other members of his gang within ages 20 and 45.

In a follow up operation on June15th, 2019 between 5.30pm to 10.11pm, twelve additional suspects within ages 23 and 32 were arrested.

Also on June 12, at about 3.00am, Operatives of Operation Crush from the Anti Cultism Unit, led by the OC Anti Cultism, CSP Frank Nelson stormed cultists hideouts at Oshodi where one Ayuba Balogun (28), a cult leader and three members of his gang were arrested. Two automatic Guns were recovered from them.

In the course of investigation, the suspects led the team to Mangoro area, Dopemu, Agege at about 7.00am, where one Segun Moyo (34) and one other member of their gang were arrested.

Also one JOJEFF Pump Action Gun was recovered.

Confirming the arrests, DSP Bala Elkana

Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State said on “10th June, 2019 at about 7.00pm, acting on credible Intelligence, Operation Crush from Morogbo Police Station, led by the Divisional Police Officer arrested two cult leaders, Enahoro Ifon and Sunday Oti in their hideout along Badagry Expressway. Four locally made Pistols were recovered from them.”
