As part of effort to eradicate poverty among women in the society, Women Connect recently trained over 50 women on skill acquisition.
The women who were drawn from Onigbongbo Local Government Development Council (LGDC) of Lagos state were educated on fashion designing, bead and soap making among others.
Executive director of Women Connect, Oyinlola Sale said the training was necessary so as to empower the participants with skills that would enable them contribute meaningfully to the development of their families as well as the society.
Oyinlola also explained that the training which was supported by the chairmanship aspirant of Onigbongbo LGDC , Adetola Okanlawon was part of her organisation’s little effort to assist government in poverty eradication in the state.
According to her, Covid-19 had further introduced more hardship in the lives of women who were not engaged in any meaningful business.
“A lot of women are ravaged by poverty because they are not employed and the situation has deteriorated since the outbreak of Covid -19 till date, this training no doubt will motivate them to set up small businesses that will in turn improve their standard of living,” Sale said.
She frowned at women who would not want to engage in any business and added that days were gone when women’s sole responsibility was to take care of the children and the home front.
On his part, chairmanship aspirant of Onigbongbo LGDC, Adetola Okanlwon described women as the bedrock of the society and added that training them on skills was ideal.Organisation empowers women on skill acquisition
