The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 20-year-old Anans John who hails from Adamawa state, for armed robbery.
The suspect is a member of a three-man armed robbery gang specislised in using motorcycle to rob unsuspecting motorists within Festac and its environms.
It was gathered that John met his waterloo thirty minutes after he and two of his colleagues robbed a motorist at Agboju area of Lagos.
The trio were tracked via the tracking device on the phone, to their hideout where they were sharing their loot. While the other two escaped, John was arrested with a pistol.
Narrating how he got involved in the crime, Anans John said “It was my friend AJ that lured me into armed robbery. I met them in Festac. They came to my place of work and convinced me to follow them to the operation. It was the first time I went with them for an operation that I was arrested” .
We collected an iPhone and a Samsung phone from the victim. Unknown to me that one of the phones we robbed had tracker. So the police tracked us down and arrested me at Festac.” Explaining further he said, “The victim was coming from the service lane when we attacked him.
The other two gang members alighted from the bike and robbed the him. Immediately they were done, I rode off. After we rode off to another location, we parked. It wasn’t up to 30 minutes after the robbery that the Police arrived and arrested me.
“I came to Lagos last year. I was a farmer in my home town in Adamawa. I came to search for greener pastures. The Bike we used for the operation is owned by one of my friends but I was the one riding it.
They came to me because they knew I could ride Okada. They ran with the Okada. They escaped when police was shooting. Police found gun with me when the arrested me.” John disclosed.
Parading the suspect at the State Police Command, the Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana said that the suspect is a member of an armed robbery gang terrorising Festac and its environment.
Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend other members of the gang who are currently at large”.
