Baby with hole in the heart needs N7M for surgery

…Help save baby Daniel Akinsanya

By Lolo Ayaba

Born with a hole in his heart, baby Daniel Akinsanya needs seven million naira for his heart surgery. In the past nine months, Daniel has continued to fight day and night to live while waiting for his parents, family and friends to raise the needed amount for his surgery.

According to Daniel’s mum, Funmi Akinsanya “Our ordeal began when he was only 41days old. We detected he was breathing fast different from the way he was breathing before. So we went to Oguntolu hospital very close to our house. After the doctor checked him, he prescribed some drugs that we should go and buy which we bought. In the midnight we detected that his breathing was faster than before we took him to the hospital. So we took him back to that hospital, the doctor checked on him, so he gave us a referral letter to Massey children hospital at Island. At the hospital we spent like three weeks there. So the doctor came and said we have to go for an eco test so that we can know the picture of what is happening. We went for the scan; it was the scan that showed us that he has hole in his heart.”

Explaining further, Mrs Akinsanya, who is a hairdresser said “from the Massey hospital, we were transferred to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. When we got to LASUTH, they said that there is no oxygen on ground, so they gave us another refer letter to LUTH.

Three weeks after he was admitted in LUTH the doctor advised that we take the baby out of the country for his surgery. But they are treating him at LUTH presently, since then we have been looking for money. So we have to call a hospital at India to send us the cost of which is eleven thousand dollars, then five thousand dollars per week and intensive care.”

Lamenting, Funmi Akinsanya noted that “We don’t want our son to die prematurely. So we want help financially. All we need is seven million naira so that Daniel can live. Although Daniel is our third child it has been a very sad journey. The tension is too much, baby Daniel cannot sleep, he is always crying and running temperature. His doctor advised that we have to carry him for the operation before he gets to a year.”
